As a Cub Scout Leader, you owe it to your scouts to learn as much as you can about Scouting and how to run your den and pack. For all positions, you need to complete Youth Protection and the position specific training for your registered Scouting position.
Youth Protection + Position Specific Training = Trained.
Often leaders receive notification that they are not trained to their surprise. Most often, the volunteer was actually not registered in the position they are holding. Sometimes they have not completely registered in My.Scouting.org and their trainings are not being recorded. Leaders can email the registrar to get answers to their training status and questions.
Cubmaster and Assistant Cubmaster Position-Specific Training
This course is intended to provide Cubmasters with the information and tools they need to successfully lead a Cub Scout pack. Cubmasters and assistants who complete this training and Youth Protection training are considered “trained” for both positions.
Den Leader Position-Specific Training
These courses are intended to provide Tiger Cub, Wolf, Bear, and Webelos den leaders with the information and tools they need to conduct successful den meetings. Den leaders who complete the Tiger Cub, Wolf, and Bear training and Youth Protection training are considered trained for all three positions. Den leaders who complete the Webelos training and Youth Protection training are considered trained as Webelos den leaders.

The Pack Committee training is designed for pack committees and is the course (along with Youth Protection training) pack committee members need to be considered “trained.”
STEM Nova Counselor and Mentor Trainings
Orientation courses are designed to help Scouters learn more about their Scouting role and about other leadership positions in the program.

The podcasts are monthly audio presentations that provide information on topics of interest to Cub Scout and Boy Scout leaders. Cubcast
Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation (BALOO)
This one-and-a-half day course is designed as an introduction to the Cub Scout outdoor program for leaders interested in adding a camping component to their Pack activities. BALOO training consists of an online pre-requisite component in addition to an overnight outdoor camping experience. Completion of this course is mandatory for a MINIMUM OF ONE adult on a Pack overnighter.
Safe Swim Defense
BSA groups shall use Safe Swim Defense for all swimming activities. Adult leaders supervising a swimming activity must have completed Safe Swim Defense training within the previous two years. Safe Swim Defense standards apply at backyard, hotel, apartment, and public pools; at established waterfront swim areas such as beaches at state parks and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers lakes; and at all temporary swimming areas such as a lake, river, or ocean. Safe Swim Defense training may be obtained from the my.scouting.org at council summer camps, and at other council and district training events.
Weather Hazard
Planning and Preparing for Hazardous Weather is available for you to do training in your unit, district, and council when an Internet connection is not available. This training is required for at least one leader before taking your unit on a tour, but more importantly, it is knowledge that we all can use to manage risks to our Scouting family in the outdoor classroom.
