Two More Eagles Soar! 🦅
Exciting news for our scouting community: Two more Eagles from Troop 20 have taken flight, achieving the prestigious rank of Eagle Scout. This is no small feat, and it speaks volumes about their dedication, hard work, and the supportive community that helped them reach this goal.
Henry Black is a sophomore at Porter-Gaud School who balances academics with being a standout athlete. As a committed cross-country runner and lacrosse player, Henry has proven he knows how to push his limits both on and off the field. His future plans are ambitious—after graduation, he hopes to attend Auburn University, where he plans to continue pursuing excellence in both athletics and academics. With the determination he’s shown through scouting and sports, Henry is sure to make a significant impact wherever he goes.
Matt Fortson, on the other hand, is a Porter-Gaud senior and a top-ranked swimmer in South Carolina. His discipline and drive have earned him accolades in the pool, but his aspirations go beyond sports. Following in the footsteps of his brother and honoring his family’s longstanding tradition of military service, Matt will join the United States Military Academy at West Point. His commitment to serving the country and upholding family values is an inspiration to all who know him.
A Community Effort
Earning the rank of Eagle Scout is a “Family and Community Affair.” While it’s the scout who puts in the hours and hard work to achieve this rank, they don’t do it alone. Older scouts, parents, siblings, teammates, troop leaders, committee members, merit badge counselors, and council Eagle advisors all play a crucial role in guiding and supporting them through this challenging journey. It’s a true testament to the power of community and teamwork. Hats off to everyone involved in lifting up these young men and helping them reach this monumental milestone!
An Impressive Record
With Henry and Matt’s accomplishments, Troop 20 has now produced 22 Eagle Scouts since 2021. It’s an incredible run that highlights the troop’s strong foundation and commitment to nurturing future leaders. We are incredibly proud of all our Eagles and excited to see what the future holds for them.
Keep soaring, Troop 20!
