2025 ETIWAN PINEWOOD DERBY
OFFICIAL RULES AND SPECIFICATIONS
IN ORDER TO ENSURE A FAIR RACE THESE RULES ARE TO BE ENFORCED AND INTERPRETED BY THE RACE
OFFICIALS. CARS MUST COMPLY WITH THESE SPECIFICATIONS TO QUALIFY TO RACE.
1. Only the official BSA wood block, wheels and axles may be used.
2. The car’s dimensions must be no larger than 2.75 inches wide by 7 inches long. The entire car and
accessories must start the race behind the starting line.
3. The car must have a minimum clearance of 3/16 inch.
4. The maximum weight of the car is 5 ounces. Only the official scale determines this weight on race day.
5. Axles may be relocated. Precut slots in the official wood block do not have to be used.
6. Wheels may not be significantly altered. Only removal of burrs and light sanding are permitted.
7. Wheel bearings, bushings, washers and springs are prohibited. Wheels must be on official axles and rub
against raw, sanded or painted wood.
8. Starting devices are prohibited. Cars must be freewheeling and driven by gravity only.
9. Cars with wet paint or glue will not be allowed to race. Exceptions will be made for repairs done by the
official Pit Crew on race day.
10. Dry graphite is the ONLY lubricant allowed. All lubrication must take place before the car is impounded.
All lubrication is to take place outside the building or in designated areas only.
11. At the designated time, each car will be weighed, qualified and impounded. The racer will not have
access to their car until after racing is complete. The only exception to this will be required damage
repairs made by the Pit Crew. The Race Officials ONLY may determine the need for damage repairs.
(Basically, if the car can still get down the track, it races.)
12. If any car is impeded or affected by any outside source, the times will be removed and the heat will be
rerun. This is at the discretion of the Race Official.
13. If any car jumps the track more than twice, it will be taken out of the heat and rerun alone. We will
make every reasonable attempt to get a finishing time for each racer.
14. GOOD SPORTSMANSHIP AND BEHAVIOR IS EXPECTED OF EVERYONE!
